LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY
Liverpool: a great place to live, a great place to study
Ranked in the top 150 Universities under 50 years old (Times Higher Education 2017) LJMU can trace its origins back to 1823 with the foundation of the Liverpool Mechanics Institute and the University has developed revolutionary collaborations to achieve its academic status as an institution that today, prides itself on the success of its graduates in areas such as global politics, sports and the film industry.
We make our home in what The Times of London described as ‘the coolest place to live in the UK’ and offer academic excellence by high quality teaching, ground-breaking research and extensive links with employers and business leaders.
Safe, friendly and affordable, Liverpool takes its place as one of the best places to study in Europe. The city is a former European Capital of Culture and was named as one of ‘the top ten cities to visit in the world’ by travel guide gurus ‘Rough Guides’. With more theatres and museums than any other UK city outside London, Liverpool stands apart from the rest of the British Isles.
As testament to the University’s commitment to professional development, it is ranked 9th in the UK for the number of active Start Up companies amongst its graduates. Throughout the academic journey, students are at the heart of institutional investment and partnerships, demonstrated by the University’s commitment to enhancing their global and commercial reach.
LJMU’s distinctive Careers Programme ensures that all students are presented with the opportunity to develop their professional experience by offering and arranging work placements and internships alongside their studies or immediately beyond graduation. As well as UK placements and internships, the University invests in a Go Global fund, offering all students the chance to bid for up to £2,000 funding for an international experience of their choice. Whether that be a placement at a summer camp in the US, or volunteering for community work in Africa or South America, the choice is limitless. We also offer some of the most competitive International Scholarships in the UK.
The University has invested £160 million over the last 10 years into its research facilities for staff and students. It harnesses a research grants portfolio worth £57 million. This significant investment has resulted in pioneering research that enhances the world around us. With staff and students from over 100 countries and over 250 recognised degree courses we are respected worldwide. Liverpool was recently voted the kindest city in the UK (Travelodge survey 2018). Like our city, LJMU is passionate, innovative, curious and creative – and our bonds with the city that surrounds us are deep and strong. Liverpool is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, like the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
